I could write about another 5-4 decision by the Supreme Court but I really just don't know what to say about it. I don't have any amazing insights or anything like that. The new catch-phrase seems to be "official religious neutrality" which is something I don't recall reading in the constitution. I also don't remember anything about "seperation of church and state." All I remember is that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

I guess that the Supreme Court has decided that by displaying the ten commandments in state buildings the government is making a law that establishes a religion. I don't see it that way, and I think we've always been far from setting up another state-sanctioned Church of England. I'm pretty sure that's what the founding fathers were trying to avoid. I don't believe they were hoping to establish an atheistic, god-less government. That's just what I think...

Here at work the late nights are apparently quite slow. Normally I don't work late in the evenings, but I did on Saturday. It was pretty quiet after about 9:30 or so. A couple weeks ago the night shift got pretty ambitious and went around and cleaned up all the desks. They found a fair amount of random junk and established an official lost-and-found box. We hadn't had one here before, and frankly I'd say it was long overdue.

Right now there isn't much in the box. In fact, there's just a squeegie. I guess that's how you spell the word. I really don't know. Anyway, whenever I walk past the box I like to look in and always the squeegie is there. I wonder where it came from. Where was it found? Is a janitor missing a squeegie or did someone actually bring one to work and leave it at their desk? Do other people think it's a real crack-up that there is a squeegie in the lost-and-found box?

It's a really nice, industrial-grade squeegie. I really mean it. Aren't things in a lost-and-found box fair game? Me and my sweetie Nik are moving to Arizona in a month, and I'm sure we could use a nice squeegie in our new home. Maybe I'll take it home with me tonight.

That article you linked about the Ten Commandments is difficult to follow. Am I the only one who thinks so? Sometimes I think news articles are intentionally difficult to follow, especially stuff about laws and all that.

Anyway, you bring up really good points about what the founding fathers were trying to avoid. And I think this hard focus on removing any signs that anyone in the U.S. government has ever believed in God, is ridiculous. I think it has serious affects in our society that can be seen and felt everywhere, from kids killing each other in school, to the prevelance of pornography in every avenue of communication.

The Ten Commandments aren't just about God. They're about having a strong moral code. The problem is that most people don't know where or how to determine a moral code without some religious influence. And most people that have one, found one with the help of a religion, whether they practice it or not.
