kim...

This is my second post today, but I just couldn't resist a small commentary on this article I stumbled across. I read an article once about how rappers who go to prison (Tupac, Shyne, Beanie Sigel) are often looked at among rap fans as being more legit. Their "street cred" goes up and their fans think they're cooler. They also are often able to continue making substantial amounts of money while in prison. At least, it used to be good. This is an article similar to the one I read.

And now Lil' Kim has landed herself in jail. For perjury. Interesting, but not anything that I'm going to follow very closely. However, I did find this statement to be weird.

"Judge Lynch suggested Jones (aka Lil' Kim) read the letters herself, as a reminder to live up to the role model her fans purport her to be."

Her fans purport her to be a role model? Really? My only knowledge of Lil' Kim has come through the moments when I've crossed paths with MTV. I don't watch much TV at all, and even less MTV, so this knowledge of Lil' Kim is admittedly limited. But it's always been some nasty mini skirt and the typical, overly-sexed gyrations that are so common in rap music videos. It's embarrassing and disgusting, if you ask me. Do her fans really think she's a role model? The type of role model who's image she would have to "live up to"? Interesting.

She's disgusting. But I guess there are some people who look up to her. That's sad.

I think it was wise of the judge to suggest she read the letters, so she feels the magnitude of her position and the effects of her actions.
